Lot 39 of 663: An Italian maiolica albarello, 17th/18th century, painted with a roundel of a man, wearing a long hat, with oval vignettes of branches, emitting vine leaves, on a pale blue ground, bearing inscription, 14cm high Note: The inscription on this jar uses the word euforbio, the Latin word for the species of plant referred to as spurge. Spurge has been used as a treatment for asthma, stomach complaints, skin ailments and snake bites.
